There are an uncountable number of devices in industrial plants that are neither managed properly nor well documented. It is therefore very time consuming and inefficient to replace devices in case of a device failure or a replacement of a spare part for maintenance purposes.
To create a platform for Plant Asset Management we employed a traditional UCD process but adapted it to take the complex technical environment into consideration. The same was true for a large program during which we redesigned the entire Swiss Traffic Management following a user centred design process.
Silvia will share some of here experiences gathered while implementing UX in large-scale, highly technical projects.
Silvia is founder, CEO and lead experience designer at the “Institute of Software Ergonomics and Usability” (www.usability.ch). During her career she researched, designed and evaluated various experiences on various devices in different domains. As many in the field Silvia was working as a researcher, usability tester, interaction designer, requirements engineer, usability engineer and UX designer. From 2009 – 2011 Silvia was President of the Usability Professionals’ Association (UPA International) where she was part of the international board of directors since 2006. Silvia is also active in the ACM SIGCHI community, where she was a Student Design Competition Judge in 2007 and 2008. Since many years Silvia is an invited lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland where she teaches usability, UX, interaction design, user interface design and design thinking strategies. Silvia speaks at various events throughout the year. She holds a BsC (Hons) and a Master’s degree in psychology and travels the world since she is 18. She feels home in Asia as much as she does in Europe, America or the Middle East. Her friends say that Silvia is an extremely visionary, inspiring and generous person who is fun to be with. She likes to share and designs for the good.
