Plant Asset Management

Wednesday, October 7th

Key Learnings

  • Rethink the paradigm of UX in highly technical environments
  • Understand that UX in practice often lacks the notion of the underlying science
  • Understand that UX is an enabler not the goal

Details

There are an uncountable number of devices in industrial plants that are neither managed properly nor well documented. It is therefore very time consuming and inefficient to replace devices in case of a device failure or a replacement of a spare part for maintenance purposes.

To create a platform for Plant Asset Management we employed a traditional UCD process but adapted it to take the complex technical environment into consideration. The same was true for a large program during which we redesigned the entire Swiss Traffic Management following a user centred design process.

Silvia will share some of here experiences gathered while implementing UX in large-scale, highly technical projects.
