Designing and developing a personality for AI and robots. Why? How? What?

Key Learnings

  • Why an AI or robot often needs to simulate having a personality or simple identity traits.
  • How to create a simple personality or identity traits for a robot.
  • How to express a certain personality with simple means.

Description

AI and robots are becoming a bigger and bigger part of our everyday lives and we interact with them on an almost daily basis. Consequently, we need to put great consideration into how we design the perceived personality or identity of these bots, to create a seamless interaction and a good experience for the user.

But how do you create a personality for AI and robots?

I will tell you about our experience with creating a personality for a simple way showing robot. I will talk about what considerations to be made, how to develop a personality and how to express that personality with limited means in a UI. I will also present a framework for developing personalities for AI’s and robots that we developed on the basis of our work.
