Designing Reality for a unique interactive Mixed-Reality Experience

Key Learnings

  • development and planning of a complex mixed reality experience
  • co-creation and prototyping
  • seamless interaction between realities
  • designing the design process itself

Decription

We will talk about challenges and learnings on working on a large-scale mixed reality project at the CoSA / Center of Science Activities in Graz, Austria. Over 2600 square feet of the science center are dedicated to a storytelling based use of augmented reality for a young audience from twelve years up – the A(R)dventure. The game-based experience can be played simultaneously by eighteen visitors equipped with Microsoft Hololenses.
Our part was to develop the interactive exhibits, design the space around them and co-create the story for the A(R)dventure. That brought us to researching the restrictions and possibilities and their influence on the design process.
