Many modern conferences are busy affairs, with multiple tracks, rooms, speakers and types of sessions. A little planning turns that intensity into real takeaways. Here’s how to get the most out of WUC 2026.

Preparing for a conference

A. Set basic goals

Take a moment to identify what you hope to achieve — networking with industry leaders, or a specific track. Having a well-defined purpose maximizes the benefits you gain from attending.

B. Research the agenda and speakers

It’s just not possible, nor advisable, to go to every single session. Prioritise based on your objectives, and consider the networking events adjacent to the main tracks — like a booth crawl or happy hour.

C. Schedule meetings

With the agenda in hand, filling available time slots with meetings helps you optimise your time on site.

What to bring to a conference

A. Smartphone

Wi-Fi at some venues is poor. A smartphone with plenty of data lets you tether your laptop via a mobile hotspot.

B. Comfortable shoes

Conferences span multiple rooms across large venues — expect a lot of walking. Wear comfortable yet professional shoes.

C. Printed schedule

If phones die or Wi-Fi and connectivity fail, a printed version of your schedule can be a lifesaver.

D. Patience

Even a well-planned conference takes a strange turn once in a while — overcrowded rooms, delayed sessions or a last-minute change in speakers.

During the conference

A. Arrive early to obtain your entrance badge

The first day is when attendees typically receive a badge, and the line can be long — sometimes incredibly long. Early arrival helps ensure registration for keynotes and sessions of interest.

B. Take notes and get session takeaways

The long-term value of a session comes from leaving with something new. Highlight key takeaways — stats, ideas, quotes and actions.

C. Ask questions

When possible and appropriate, ask speakers about things that aren’t clear or about items of interest.

D. Don’t forget the hallway track

Many conversations and ad hoc meetings occur outside the session rooms — a phenomenon known as the hallway track.

E. Attend social events

Conferences offer networking events. Choose ones that fit your schedule and interests — don’t feel obligated to attend all of them.

F. Hydrate

Long days in dry buildings add up, so staying hydrated is critical to feeling well and gaining the most from the experience.

After the conference

A. Review notes and takeaways

Strong, detailed note taking enables thoughtful reflection after the conference.

B. Follow up

Stay connected with recent contacts by sending a follow-up email or extending a LinkedIn invite.

C. Share with colleagues

Discuss the experience and key lessons with colleagues, especially those who did not attend.

D. Provide feedback

Most organisers welcome feedback on what worked well and what could be improved — at WUC you can rate every session via Ratefy.
