The Value of UX

The Value of UX with Stefan Barac

Stefan Barac emphasizes that the value of UX, especially in accessibility, is fundamentally social and economic. Good UX design reduces harm, includes more people in society, and creates products that work for everyone. This inclusiveness doesn’t just benefit individuals—it creates a win-win-win situation, supporting users, companies, and the broader community.

He points out that while making products accessible does require extra effort, it directly impacts a company’s revenue and success. Accessibility isn’t just about incremental improvements—it’s binary: either people can access your website or software (a “1”), or they can’t (a “0”). If you exclude users, you lose their business completely.

Stefan also highlights that accessibility isn’t only about visible disabilities or screen readers. It benefits a wide range of people—neurodivergent users, those with ADHD or autism, hard of hearing users, people with motor or cognitive impairments, and many others. In fact, a significant portion of the population depends on accessible design to participate fully.

He concludes with a call to action: “Progress over perfection.” You don’t have to make everything perfect from the start. Instead, begin improving accessibility step by step—include one group, then the next, and keep going. Just start.
